About Denise

Hi,

You've made it this far in looking for some help or information. Sometimes this part is the hardest... I hope the following information will help you in finding what you need.

First, not all counsellors will suit your needs! And not all therapeutic approaches are right for every situation. In the time of Physical Distancing, I am also providing secure and compliant online/remote video and phone sessions. Scheduling can be uniquely flexible to your needs.

A Holistic approach to care requires integrating up-to-date, evidence based therapies while taking into account the unique social, psychological and spiritual make up of any person.

My practice includes use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Behavioural Activation Therapy (BAT), Dialectical and Narrative work, as well as Guided Imaginal Revisiting and Psychodynamics. However, I focus on a client-centered approach where spiritual, social and cultural needs will always override rigid frameworks or theory.

This approach aims to balance experience and training with compassionate and client-centered collaboration.... you are the expert in your own story. I'm here to help.

Oaklands is also an approved Service provider for EAP/HealthServices Canada, First Nations Health (IRS Support counselling, FNH Crisis Support and MMIWG counselling), Provincial Victim Services Counselling (CVAP) and other employee health services counselling programs under both RCC and RSW designations. Enquire with you insurance provider about possible coverage.

Specialized training in: Critical incident debriefing, Compassion Fatigue Therapy (Medical Professionals, First Responders or care-givers experiencing 'Burn out'), Victim Services counselling, acute Traumatic Stress Injury assessment and therapy, post-MVI and clinical PTSD support. Housecalls and hospital-based counselling sessions can be arranged for palliative, grief and loss support both remotely (phone/video) and in person.

Please contact Denise to arrange a first phone call or face-to-face meeting for yourself or your family. I do not believe automated/impersonal booking services are helpful when deciding to take 'that first step'.

NOTE: My practice remains open, and every effort is being made to maintain privacy and safety for all clients. Oaklands services are now compliant with PHIPA, PIPEDA, and all equivalent personal health information and personal protection legislations in Canada using MEDEO technology (a PHIPA/HIPAA compliant video-conferencing platform for medical professionals) and Hushmail. I also carry additional CyberSecurity and Privacy Liability insurance (BCACC Certificate No: 14393).

Member BC Clinical Hypnotherapy Association (2012), American Pet Loss and Bereavement (APLB), BC College of Social Work (Reg #11913), BC Clinical Counselling Association (Reg #14393), BC Association of Social Workers (Reg #1006706).
