I work with women that have survived a traumatic or abusive experience. This means that I am a trauma-informed therapist. But what does that mean?! Trauma is something that happens in your life that you do not feel prepared for. It's unexpected, and it changes the trajectory of your life. This can be anything from having a change at work that you didn't ask for, to being in a major car accident or surviving an abusive relationship. So being trauma-informed means that it is my goal to help you find ways of coping with the changes in your life and then healing from it.
I have been trained in Eye Movement and Desensitization (EMDR) therapy that has been proven to be very effective in treating anxiety, low self-esteem, and traumatic events. It may be something that we use to help you reach your goals.
I also work with couples to help them reach their goals for their relationship. I have a premarital counselling resource to help couples who are contemplating marriage or are engaged to be married. This type of counselling can help you to consider where your strengths and challenges are as you contemplate the big step in your relationship.
Perhaps you are already married or in a long-term romantic relationship that is struggling. You are living together, but are not connected in the way that you used to be. You're living like roommates, and you want more for your relationship. It is important to help you find ways to be friends again and to find a connection with each other in a way that begins to rebuild that trust and help you get the relationship that you're both looking for.
