My passion has been to work alongside people whose lives have been hit hard by emotional pain, loss, trauma, or substance use and map a path forward. Step-by-step I work towards building up positive coping skills, processing the past, noticing significant patterns, and building a life that fits who you want to become.
My approach is warm and collaborative. At times I can be directive, in creating structure in therapy and at others times I work creatively to explore and unearth the past. Most importantly together I want to vision a future and figure out what barriers stand in your way.
I have a Masters of Social work from UBC where I received specialized training in psychotherapy. I have worked in Fraser Health in Mental Health, and residential substance use treatment centres including Heartwood Centre for Women. I currently work as a counsellor in a clinic for pregnant women and mothers who have experienced substance use and trauma.
I use an eclectic style including: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, interpersonal approaches, relapse prevention, and motivation interviewing.
