About Marcia

My experience with grief and loss has been both personal and professional. Clinically I have worked with many people of all ages and at different life stages to help them cope and to find ways of moving forward after a loss. I have also been touched by devastating personal losses and know how sometimes the process of grieving can be a difficult and rarely a straight path. My experiences have taught me that no matter how great the losses are, leaving a hole in your heart, we can learn to live again. Life will not be the same as before the loss, but after moving through the grief we are a new and different person whose heart’s hole can be filled again. Due to my experiences, I know my purpose is to make a difference in the lives of people – like you, who are working through their own losses no matter the source. Grief is a very personal journey, and whether you have experienced the loss of a relationship, a loved one, a pet, a job, or anything you held dear, I’m here to tell you it is possible to find meaning, purpose and to live again in a different way. I completed my Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of BC in 2002 and a Bachelor of Education from UBC in 1979. I am a certified member of good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapists Association (CCPA – ccpa-accp.ca). What this means for you is that I adhere to the principles, ethics, standards and values of CCPA’s Code of Ethics when working with my online clients.

My past experience includes working with individuals ranging in age from 5 to 80+ in both the educational system and in the private sector at a non-profit agency. Areas I have worked with include (but are not limited to): abuse, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, anxiety, self-esteem, mindfulness, and aging. I have also been a member of Critical Incident Response Teams, a Restorative Justice Facilitator, and worked with Integrated Case Management Teams. The benefits of counselling on-line are many. The convenience for you is vast – you can write whenever you need to, no appointment is necessary, fits into any schedule, is private and confidential, and writing often allows clients to the see the picture more clearly. (online counselling vs. f-2-f)  Due to the nature of on-line counselling, I am only able to work with British Columbians who are 19 years of age and older.

In order to do this work ethically and effectively, my professional development is on-going and I have completed the following courses/certifications to keep me working in the most up-to-date ways:

  • Level 1 Cyber-Counselling Therapy Online; Level 2 Cyber-Counselling Therapy Online
  • E-therapy: Ethical Considerations/Ethical Use of Social Media Counselling/Ethical Dilemmas in On-line Counselling;
  • Cyber-Counselling Fundamentals; Helping Clients Cope with Loss and Grief;
  • Critical Incidence Response Training; Supporting the Suicide-Bereaved; and
  • Mindfulness in Therapeutic Practise.
