About Kirsten

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor providing online video therapy through Zoom, and work with empaths, or people who just feel things deeply. I specialize in trauma, anxiety and depression.

It might feel like your body is often in fight, flight or shut down mode while your mind is stuck in thought spirals. This can invite a critical voice in your head, who might be judging you for not being able to hold it all together, be more present, or get over it. As an empath, it might also be hard to voice your own needs when you’re used to putting others before you. You’re done with old stories holding this much power over you, ready to process your feelings without them hijacking your nervous system, and long to hone the power of your sensitivity.

Therapists often have a reputation as experts who will fix your problems. This might come as a surprise but I don’t see the problem as located within you at all. I believe no one I meet is ever the problem.  In therapy, I collaborate with you while we explore the struggles you face and uncover all that is preferred which may have been pushed away or silenced but not destroyed.

Common reasons people come to work with me are:

trauma – learning to feel a sense of safety in the body, and reconnecting with everything you are besides your trauma

anxiety - moving past overthinking and overanalyzing towards developing new neural pathways that invite presence

depression – unpacking and exploring it to reduce its power, while moving beyond numbness or stuckness

boundaries – establishing clear boundaries while maintaining compassion and conserving energy

relationships – dating, moving past a breakup or strengthening a current relationship in ways that connect to your values and preferred choices

spiritual exploration – discovering meaning and integrating spiritual experiences into your daily life

In our work, I see you as the expert of your own experience.  I support you to reconnect with your intuition, so you can uncover your own resources, and start a new chapter in your life. I draw from my education  in Clinical Psychology (MSc) , which also led me to narrative and somatic therapy, two perspectives I draw upon heavily in my work. This means, I really believe in working with the body and our stories as a root to change. My approach is relational, client-centered, creative, collaborative and somatic. I view my role as a way of being that requires lifelong learning. It’s a true privilege to support people along their healing path, while bearing witness to the power of our innate capacities to transform, which I believe resides in every single one of us.

It’s not so easy being a human these days and yet there’s often an expectation that we should be able to “push through it” on our own. I think courage lies in addressing our emotional, mental and spiritual needs by seeking support. If my words resonate, I so look forward to hearing from you. Finding the right counsellor who you connect with, trust, and who can support you in the ways you need is so crucial. I offer free 30 minute in-person consultations to decide if I'm the right fit for you. This allows you to ask any questions you may have and get a sense of how we might work together.
